When you think of celebrities, you think of a high-flying lifestyle walking red carpets, being papped at the market, promoting films and music and being interviewed by the press in luxurious hotel suites filled with elegant furniture and fabrics. You might not equate celebrity with sitting back and playing video games all day long – but surprisingly, that’s just what some of your favourite celebrities do. From Rihanna to Vin Diesel, many celebrities are now picking up the controller and getting involved in some of your favourite video games – and you never know, you may well be playing against a celeb every time you play on XBOX live!
Ice-T
Notorious rapper, known for writing the first gangsta rap song in history, is someone that you’d probably think of as very serious considering his past – but he is actually a massive fan of video games. Take a look at his Twitter feed and you’ll see that the majority of his tweets mentions ‘game’ somewhere – he talks about playing Dead Rising, Modern Warfare 2, Fallout: New Vegas and Gears 3. He also mentions that you should just play whatever gaming platform you own and not waste time talking about which is better. Who would have thought it!
Dara O Briain
Softly-spoken Irish comic Dara O Briain is next on our list. For the last three years, he’s presented the Bafta game awards, which would be a bit of an impossibility if he wasn’t such an avid gamer himself. Speaking to the Guardian paper about the awards, he said “I’ve played five of the six nominees for best game this year, with the exception of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.” He was also rooting for the rather surprising Dance Central for XBOX to win an award – we can just imagine Dara boogieing around his living room!
Megan Fox
Once-crowned Sexiest Woman in the World winner Megan Fox is definitely not someone who you’d expect to be a gaming junkie, but when she’s not strutting the red carpet promoting her blockbuster films, she can be found at home with her feet up playing Mortal Combat – and she’s also admitted that she’s an online Halo fan. She said “I have Halo: Reach. I have a complete addiction to that game. It is sick. I play online mostly and other gamers have no idea. They make fun of my gamer tag because it is too funny. They are all a bunch of guys and it is clear that I am a girl, so they make fun of my name, and they have no idea they are making fun of me.”
Mila Kunis
New girl to the celebrity scene Mila Kunis, who recently starred in The Black Swan with Natalie Portman and Friends with Benefits with Justin Timberlake, but who has been the voice of Meg in Family Guy since series two is also a huge gaming fan – but not the sorts of games that you’d expect. Mila is a big fan of Call of Duty, especially the extra game that is unlocked when you finish first player mode, as well as World of Warcraft.
Jessica Alba
Mum Jessica Alba has been a long time gamer and is probably typical of most mums who enjoy the odd video game. Jessica said that she grew up playing games like Bomberman and Pac-Man “where the music was like doot… doot… doot”. She’s now gone on to buy a Wii and plays all sorts of family games on there, such as Super Mario Bros and all of the Wii Sports games – so you can be safe in the knowledge that you’re not the only one who secretly enjoys playing kid’s games!
